经典 is the study of the world of ancient Greece and Rome: the language and 文学; ancient 历史 and mythology; archaeology and philosophy of the classical world. 古典文学专业的学生接受古代希腊语和拉丁语的训练, and they read the great works of classical 文学 in the original (without the need for translations): the epic poetry of 首页r and Virgil; the histories of Herodotus, 修西得底斯, 李维, and Tacitus; the rich tradition of lyric and elegiac poetry; tragedy and comedy; the vast output of Cicero and other great men of politics and government; and the philosophy of Plato and Lucretius.
